(August 2019) – Fittingly, on the day that celebrates her assumption–body and soul–into Heaven, I am committed to learning more about Mary, the mother of God. I intend to share what I learn on this blog.
I am not a theologian, nor am I a scholar. What appears on this blog is what I have discovered while researching the work of others, along with my thoughts and reflections on what I have found.
Mary’s role, 2,000 years ago through today, and presumably for eternity, is second in importance only to Jesus when considering the most important people that ever walked the earth. I want to know more about how she accepted her mission, how she lived her earthly life with all its challenges, and now, as Queen of Heaven and Earth, how she continues to influence and guide us.
I serve as editor of a diocesan newspaper (update: I am now retired) and during the course of that effort I am immersed in Catholicism. From meetings with the bishop to talking to people in the pews I have gained a new perspective on the richness of our faith. In my first note as editor of the official newspaper of the diocese in which I work, I explained to readers that I had more questions than answers and I hoped that together we would discover a deeper connection to the Church. And today, the result of my unquenchable curiosity about Mary, I hope to discover a deeper connection to her.
I invite you to journey along with me while I am Searching for the Virgin Mary.
